Malayseeya Day 1: Lunch by Jeff and then street food

When we arrived at the flat we were staying at in Kuala Lumpur, we were super hungry. (And no my hungry eyes did not miss the Soho area, we came round the other side.) We decided to go the nearest convinience store, which was actually in the basement of the building. That is where Jeff picked up some instant pasta.

Add some milk and butter, and pasta ala Jeff with some sweet potato bread and butter. We went out to eat a lot, but this was one of our best meals! We had set the table and sat together and just chilled. (miss you girls :-( )

The dinner table:

Jeff's Pasta mix:

So after our big meal, the girls went shopping while I napped a bit, and then we got all dressed up to go out, and by the time we were ready, NOTHING was open. But that was our opportunity to eat on the streets! We had traditional Malaysian Nasi Goreng and some Humus and Pita bread:

THE Best Restaurant Ever!! Singapore- Banana Leaf Apolo

My dad lived in Singapore for 6 years, and he's a foodie too, so I got to eat at a variety of restaurant all around tiny Singapuura. I was 11 when he left, so I barely remember details. But there are a few places which struck me for life.

The number 1 place is Banana Leaf Apolo. Papa used to take us there All the time. In fact when we started going, it was a roadside place where locals would come and eat, from there now it's a full fledged air conditioned restaurant. They even recognise my dad's name when I mention it. The food is just Amazing, similar enough to Bengali/Indian food to feel comfortable and filling and different enough to intrigue me about the recipes.  I once took a flight via Singapore Airlines to stop in Singapore for 1 day to go eat there!

When I was in England I looked everywhere for South Indian cuisine like BLA but never found it. Most South Indian cuisines are vegetarian and consist of Dosas etc. But this is the non-veg side of South India. And ITS THE BEST:

So While the girls and the Siddiqy's went to a Japanese Buffet (which was apparently the best meal they had on the trip), I had to say no, and head to the reason of my frequenting Singapore. And you can imagine HOW hard it was to say no to Sushi Buffet! But of course, I can get sushi everywhere, this restaurant has food I could never ever find anywhere, so me and Littu Mama were off!

The Place:

The Menu:

The Free Plain Rice and Free vegetables:

Our meal: Apolo Chicken (house speciality), Fish Curry and Prawn Curry.

and the Cherry on top (I've been dreaming of this drink for so long, that I chugged it in a go.):
THE MOST AMAZING LIME DRINK EVER:

writing this blog gives me such pleasure, but also puts me in pain, as I look at the pics and wish I could have eaten just a little bit more, so I could be sick of the food, and then not have such cringing aches to eat it again.

(Note to readers: I'm a bit nuts, if you haven't noticed.)

So that concludes our couple of days in Singapore. The next day after this meal, we went hopping off to Malayseeya. Wait for it readers.

Sushi Tei and Supermarket Sushi

One of my main reasons for doing Anything is usually related to food or music, nowadays I find it more leaning towards food.

On day 2, I hung out with the girls during their Orchard Road shopping partially because I had spotted a reputed Japanese restaurant Sushi Tei (previously googled from Dhaka) bang opposite Takashimaya. Sorry to my dear readers, We were SO HUNGRY, even I, the food blogger forgot to take pictures of the INCREDIBLE food. We had Sushi, Sashimi, Baby Oysters, Lobster, Beef Teriyaki amongst the 5 of us, and the only pictures I have to show for it are :

The Gigantic Menus covering Japanese cuisine in all directions:

And our appetiser: (salmon belly sashimi)

And the rest is history...

Okay so what I loved about both Singapore and Malayseeya was the packed ready to eat FRESH sushi and sashimi in supermarkets. What I mean is, in England and America you do get packed sushi boxes, but they are AWFUL and there's literally 2 types you can choose from and usually they are veggy and egg sushi with limited raw fish.

But this was no fake sushi, there were different assortment boxes; for 1 person, for sushi lovers, sashimi lovers, for parties...

Another day when I was unable to join the girls for lunch (McDonalds overeating incident), I grabbed a Salmon box in the evening when I was finally hungry.

They even sell small boxes of soya sauce, wasabi, and Even Spicy MAYOOOO

(At 2am my hunger pangs are High and I'm thinking Why did I leave??)

Full Singaporean Dinner @ Angan Bhaiya and Deborah Bhabi's

Our host in Singapore, Angan Bhaiya and Deborah Bhabi treated us to a full Singaporean dinner at his place the night we arrived. All the specialities of Singapore seemed to be there. YUM yum and yummier:

My Favourite! Chicken Satay:

Chicken and rice (you have to dip it in another sauce and soya sauce)

2 kinds of Crab:

with some Veggies and Beef

The Hit of the night: Prawns

A Moghlai Parata type stuffed with cheese/egg/meat:

I ended up only having the chicken satay and chicken and rice and one prawn. By the time I thought of moving to the other side of the table, I was completely stuffed!

This is why: (my big satay accomplishment!)

Malaysian Food in Singapore @Pappa Rich

So we arrive in Singapore at 10am, and head to Jeff's cousins place which was beautiful! We were waiting for our friend Bari to join us from Sydney, so we didn't want to leave the apartment. But we were STARVING!! Of course, the foodholic I am, I noticed a Restaurant bang next to the apartment as we were pulling into the parking lot. So I dragged the girls to check it out.

It turned out to be a Malaysian chain Pappa Rich. The food was Super Yum.

The atmosphere was so pretty, our first taste of bidiesh, sitting on the roadside with no worries about the surroundings.

the 4 of us could barely finish the 2 dishes we ordered:

The coconutty curry with chicken and seafood with noodles. Of course being the Bangis we are, we ordered plain rice to do justice to the curry.

And a Seafood Noodle in a tomato-ish Asian tasting sauce (forgot the name)

Was a blissful meal with the us girls enjoying the fresh air and freedom and fantastic food:

Dream Trip, Day1: Breakfast at Deli France

So we arrived for our layover at KL airport at 7am and had 2 ours to kill before our connecting flight. We'd been up the whole night, so of course we were tired and hungry. Here are the sights and yums we saw and had:

This is the sign that attracted us to Delifrance in the first place:

And guess what was baking?

The girls choosing their breakfasts:

Our Breakfast:

This was my first try at Delifrance actually despite having seen it everywhere in the world, and yes the freshly baked croissants were Yum although their lime juice needs bare improvement.

Beginning of Dream GIrls trip: Balaka Lounge @ Zia International

Firstly, sorry I had to pause the Bombay blogging and start with my latest trip to Singapore and Malaysia. I delay my posts too much, thus now I have too many posts to make. So now I will try to blog in real time. I'll write the trip posts first, and maybe update with more Bombay food when I'm broke and having noodles only.

2ndly, i refuse to call Dhaka airport the new name. Zia International is freaking awesome. I hope they waste another 1200 kori changing it back in the next administration. Seriously.

So I recently went on the dream trip with 4 of my dream girls, (all childhood school friends) and while we were planning the trip, I was planning the meals down to a T. We obviously didn't get to make it everywhere, but pretty much 90% of my ambitions were achieved.

Anyway our flight was at 1:20am and although we had already eaten dinners at home, we were mad hungry before our flight (PS Malaysian Airlines food is awful!!)

DO try this YUMMY club sandwhich at the Balaka Lounge:

DONT take the chicken wings. tastes like "beshon" and over fried and no proper marination.

And then OFF WE went.....!!!! Food from Day 1 coming soon!

Out of the Blue

I think this is a popular place in Mumbai. Mixed Italian and continental food and drinks. I enjoyed myself there, especially because there was live music. A single musician on accoustic guitars singing classics in English and Hindi :-)

And then there was the food:

BEST bruschetta EVEr! It had this amazing cheese in it!

Cheese Fondue and my Yummy mixed fruit drink:

Seafood Risotto:

Veggie Pasta:

My new single Graceland!
