Singapore with a Star


I love my life. I don't say it enough, being a depressive obsessive downer with a huge heart of hope is confusing so I barely know most of the time when I'm happy or sad. (Other than with Hucklebery Friend, I'm either happy or mad.)

Sumon Bhai, a famed and great musician, a warrior and also a nutter like us happened to be in Singapore literally down the road from my hotel. Although my first ever written song Duur Theke was recorded in his house 11 years ago, it's taken us this long to actually have a one on one conversation. That too in the streets of Singapore's East India.

Sumon bhai himself a Big Foodie and a brave one, even with his dietary restrictions which he upholds he encourages everyone around him to eat on his behalf (and also so he can take a tiny bite).









Afterwards we walked to the alley behind Fakruddin and met some other of his friends, sat on the streets and drank cha and golpo'd like all Bangalis should.


























Thank you Sumon Bhai, my Singapore trip was extra special this time :)

Another of Mum's Bangali Lunches

I'm spoiled. My taste buds are snobs. Thanks to my Mummy, Papa and Nanabhai all of whom have fed me so well since birth. No wonder my best meals are at my own home.

Here is one of Mummy's delicious spreads for her friends prepared by herself Chef Runa and Chef Johura.

Best Food I had in Bangkok: Federal Hotel

After searching high and low in Sukhumvit for some good Thai curry, right by our hotel was another hotel called Federal Hotel which finally gave me the authentic, spicy curries that I fear get a little washed down when being presented to tourists:

We ate there on two occasions including 2 hours before our flight back to Dhaka. (PS my obsession has, over the years shifted to Panang Curry from Green Curry.)

Banana Leaf Apolo Reprise

Any follower of my blog (or if you've seen the top 10 restaurants label) Banana Leaf Apolo restaurant is one of my most favourite places in the world to eat. Although Singapore was not a pleasure trip for me this time round, it somehow was: for it is a land of eats.

My favourite parts of this meal are the suber uber delicious vegetables that come free with the Rice plate.

                                    I also particularly love the authentic way of walking around and piling and refilling the plates with soft white rice/ biyrani and vegetable.

                                                       And the most famous and most delicious fish Head Curry. YUM YUM YUM.
 And NOTHING is complete without their Lime Juice. OH boy, writing this post is quite torture.
 Another mention worthy item is Chicken 65.

This is my ultimate heaven though: a beautiful plate of Bhaat and Mach.

I could not help but go again the day before I left:, that day the vegetables had mixed up and had BEANS!!!

I tried another new dish called Chicken Masala but did not like it so much
 And due to some festivity we were given free cake.
 By the way it was Sunday in Little India, which meant millions of Bangladeshis milling around the area, hanging out on the fields, watching tv through store windows, singing, listening to music. Although Singaporeans may find it annoying, I thought it was nice for these overtime working employees who still managed to keep spirits high on their day off.
